Dr. Patricia Dove’s End of Year Message

Dear VASEM Members and Friends,

The year of 2016 will be remembered as a time of increasing need for factual scientific information and consensus on issues that affect the nation.  Here at home, your Virginia Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (VASEM) is committed to meeting those needs.  Only four years young, the VASEM network of independent experts is composed of members of the three National Academies who live or work in Virginia.  The VASEM membership and colleagues from all around the Commonwealth are working together to provide nonpartisan and rigorous analytical scientific assessment to inform policy discussions important to our future.

It is imperative to base policy decisions on a sound understanding of the science and technology that enable much of the economic growth and the quality of life in Virginia.  By calling on the broad spectrum of science experts in the Commonwealth, VASEM provides a collective rigor and objectivity that no single institution can achieve on its own.

Today, I am writing to thank you for contributing in so many ways to VASEM during 2016.   These include your service to the annual Summits that focus on timely and relevant topics for Virginia, to the blue ribbon study of the Virginia aerospace industry for the General Assembly, to assist on expert Panels and Committees, for persistently spreading the news that Virginia has a new resource to navigate science and technology issues, and of course, for tirelessly sharing your time and expertise in collective and nonpartisan efforts.  It is fitting that our mission can be summarized, INFORM, ADVOCATE, and SERVE.

As we provide the expertise to address great needs across the state to create high paying jobs and opportunities for Virginians, VASEM needs your support.  I am asking you to join me in contributing financially, before the end of the year, with a gift of any size.   As a 501c(3), your contribution is tax deductible.

Now, more than ever, science and technology require a strong and effective voice. Please join me in making a tax-deductible gift to VASEM.   Please make your check payable to the Virginia Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (VASEM) and send to:
